Hello, my name is JD Hunt and I am a fine artist, illustrator, and graphic designer.
My work is loose and often abstract.  My love of paint and texture shows up heavily in most of my work.  I like to let my work develop through experimentation, and often small mistakes, or intentional mishaps shape the direction of a piece; and I definitely don't stay in the lines.
I like the idea of a piece of art having a life of its own.  I work in layers, building up and stripping away paint, much like how a person grows and changes over time and I tend to choose tools like graphite pencils, charcoal, watercolor crayons, and acrylic paint.  I also use different types of surfaces and often try to dirty up the paper by soaking it in things like old coffee. My paintings generally have a used look to them, because I want them to have history and scars, to depict layers of experience.
I hope my work resonates with people emotionally and they recognize some of their own life’s journey in my work.
Artist Statement
I Making art is a symbolic relationship.  I don't create things as much as I uncover them.  The images I produce are parts of me, hidden, in waiting.  I share these images because it's the most comfortable way for me to share myself

I have worked for North Carolina Public Schools as well as individuals and small businesses such as Zero Point Jiu Jitsu, and Godzina Music.
